Ensar Sinani holds a master’s degree in Islamic Studies from the University of Hamburg. He wrote his thesis paper on “Freigelassene Sklaven zwischen rechtlicher Norm und gelebter Praxis: Untersuchung der Auswirkungen der rechtlichen Normen des hanafitischen Rechtes im Lichte der historischen Quellen” - “Freed Slaves between Legal Norm and Lived Practice: Examination of the Effects of the Legal Norms of Hanafi Law in Light of Historical Sources”. Previously, he studied Islamic Law at the Al-Azhar University in Cairo (2010-2019) where he obtained the bachelor’s degree in Islamic Law in 2014. He then continued with the Master Studies at the Department of Islamic Legal Theory (Uṣul al-Fiqh). His thesis paper, which is still to be defended, is on “The role of Istihsan in Upholding the Objectives the Sharia: An Analytical Study of al-Kasani`s (d. 587 AH) Work Bada'i al-Sana'I” – “Dawr al-Istihsan fi Ri'ayat al-Maqasid al-Shar'iyyah: Dirasah Tatbiqiyyah 'ala Kitab Bada'i al-Sana'i li'l-Imam al-Kasani.”
His research interest focuses on the interaction between Law and Social Practice throughout the Islamic History. He aims at exploring the mutual influence of legal norms and social practices through the examination of documentary sources, such as legal documents, court registers and other literary sources in comparison with the legal literature, to find out whether they were influenced from each other or not. Besides the studies, he has worked for some years as Imam in a Mosque in Hamburg and been active in the social life of the Muslim Community here in West Europe through lectures, seminars, and workshops on different theological topics, especially focusing on youth education and addressing the social and integrational challenges European Muslims face. From there has erected his second research field of interest: the development of Islamic Law in our time and its ability to address the needs of 21st Century Muslims living in a globalised World. Since November 2023, he is a member of the Junior European Council of Fatwa of the IGMG- Islamic Community, where he provides the Council with legal expertise regarding Hanafi Law.
